Saving Whales from Ship Collisions

A video has recently surfaced on the internet of a whale swimming in blood and crying out in pain after being hit and eventually killed by a large vessel off the coast of Tahiti. This humpback, nicknamed “Sweet Girl,” was a friendly whale often seen during Tahiti’s whale-watching season. Sweet Girl was loved by locals, whale watchers, and especially by environmentalist advocate Rachel Moore, who was swimming with her just the day before her accident. Moore is now an advocate for speed limit changes on vessels travelling through Tahiti’s lagoon during whale watching season.
